“Shedding Some Light… and Some Blood”
~~~Black Estate-Dining Room-9:02 am~~~
Detective Pine points to blood dried in the crevasse on the candlestick base. The photographer takes two photos of it.
“We’ll call this in to Inspector Brown.” An officer says
“Please do.” Detective Pine says picking up the candlestick (still wearing his rubber gloves).
~~~Arlington Heights Police Station-Interrogation Room-9:05 am~~~
An officer enters the room.
“Inspector, there’s a call for you.” The officer says
Inspector Silverson nods to him and exits, leaving Sir Black with the officer.
“Hi.” The officer makes small talk
~~~Random Pier on Lake Michigan -9:19 am~~~
Miss Scarlet is dressed in a red coat. She walks to the end of the pier and takes the dagger out of her purse; she drops it in the water. She watches it descend through the clear water. A shaggily sea captain pretends not to notice…
~~~Arlington Heights Police Station-Inspector Silverson’s Office-9:20am~~~
He hangs up and calls Detective Pine’s cell phone.
“Ben, it’s me.” He says, “It turns out that you were right, the candlestick did give the finale blow. But the coroner report shows that he was stabbed by a thin six-inch blade.” Silverson thumbs through the report, “The blade merely injured him and then… about five minutes later the finale blow was struck.” There is a pause, “That’s right… it is very possible that two people thought they killed James Scarlet, only the second one was more positive.”
~~~Black Estate-Dining Room-9:22 am~~~
Detective Pine closes his cell phone.
“Officer Malachite, it turns out two people were involved in the murder and we’ve missed some major evidence.” He says
“What about this.” Officer Malachite says pointing to an empty display box.
“I checked with Sir Black on that, he said that he had a dagger in there but he took it to his room to put on display.” Detective Pine says
“I see…” Officer Malachite says
~~~Arlington Heights Police Station-Interrogation Room-9:30 am~~~
Sir Black is relieved and somewhat annoyed when Inspector Silverson returns
“Sorry, but I will have you know that we’ve gotten some more information…” Inspector Silverson says briefly
“Oh?” Sir Black says
“I can’t share it with you…” Inspector Silverson says
“Well can you at least tell me how he died?” Sir Black says
“Head trauma.” Inspector Silverson says
“That could be caused by various things.” Sir Black says
~~~Random Pier on Lake Michigan -9:32 am~~~
Miss Scarlet makes her way off the pier, the sea captain close behind her.
“Miss?” he calls out
She gasps a little and turns around, “Who are you? What do you want?”
“I want to know what brought you to this pier?” the captain says
“What?” Miss Scarlet rolls her eyes, “I came to get a breath of fresh air.”
“An awful quick one at that.” The captain says
“Will you mind your own business!” she snaps
“I thought it has something to do with this.” He holds up his fishing net, the dagger tangled in the ropes
Miss Scarlet feels a pencil in her purse.
“Sir, I’d suggest that you put that back in the lake where you found it.” Miss Scarlet says gripping the pencil
“And I’s suggest that you go to the police with this. I heard there was a murder at the Black Estate, you are familiar with the Black Estate… aren’t you?” the sea captain raises an eyebrow.
Miss Scarlet turns around, noticing that her car is blocking the view from the busy street, she pulls out the pencil and stabs him in the side of the neck. Blood splashes out onto the window of her car. She gets a bag out of her truck and wraps it around his bleed neck. She then carefully sets him in the back seat of the car.
“You really should have kept your business to yourself.” She says to the dead captain.
Miss Scarlet turns to the lake and throws both the Dagger and the pencil into the lake…
She gets in her car and drives away…
